A Sunday in Pomaire

Pomaire

Pomaire is an antique Indio village about 50 km southwest from Santiago. For its name it is said to be an old Peruvian settlement.

Here the old colonial traditions and customs have been kept up until today and it is well known for its pottery. All the pieces are handmade and you can find pots, mugs, and other decorative miniatures. And on top of that the simple but beautiful pubs and restaurants serve typical Chilean dishes some with a folkloric show and live music. All in all, it’s an excellent trip for a Sunday.

Isla Negra - House of P. Neruda

Isla Negra

Isla Negra is a quiet and beautiful place at the beach, 100 kilometres from Santiago. It’s a national monument because here Pablo Neruda, the famous Chilean poet and winner of the Noble Prize for Literature lived a long time and is buried near his beloved Pacific. His house he designed himself and from all the rooms he had a view of the ocean. During his life he collected various objects, among which the figureheads are the most important ones.
South of Isla Negra the harbour of San Antonio was constructed in 1917 as alternative to Valparaiso. Most interesting is a visit the market directly located at the beach, where each day the fishermen are offering their freshly caught seafood.
