The Magallanes is Chile's southernmost region, located some 3,000km south of Santiago.

It contains some of Chile's most fabulous scenery, which includes world-famous Torres del Paine National Park, the Strait of Magallanes, Tierra del Fuego, Cape Horn, the Patagonian channels, huge glaciers and ice caps, and hundreds of lakes.

North of Punta Arenas is Puerto Natales, the gateway to fabulous Torres del Paine National Park. From here you can sail along the fjords to big glaciers such as Balmaceda and Sarmiento.

South of the Strait of Magallanes is Tierra del Fuego, South America's largest island, divided between Chile and Argentina. Its northern portion is flat and featureless, but its central and south portions sport snowy mountain ranges, Magellanic forests and several lakes, including lake Blanco, a fishing paradise. The island is bound on the south by Beagle channel, on whose southern shore lies Puerto Williams, the world's southernmost town.

Beyond is Cape Horn and the stormy Drake Sea. Farther south is Chilean Antarctica, where Villa Las Estrellas, the only settlement on the continent permanently inhabited by families with children, provides accommodation to get acquainted with its fascinating wildlife and explore the frozen surroundings.
