Chile's North

Arica and Iquique

Morro de Arica

Arica is the city of everlasting spring in the very north of Chile, close with the border to Peru and counts on beautiful beaches and a unique vegetation as an oasis in the northern Atacama desert. Close to Arica we find the National Park Lauca and the Lake Chungará at an altitude of 4570 m above sea level.

Round about 300 km south from Arica Iquique is located, the capital of the first region of Chile. Iquique was the most important Chilean harbour for the export of salpetre from the mines in this region which today are abandoned.

Atacama desert

Tatio Geysers

This is the driest place in the world – but don’t worry – drinks will always be available. We will visit the most important places of interest like Salar de Atacama which is one of the biggest salt lakes in the world, the geysers of Tatio at an altitude of 4300 meters, the Valle de la Luna, and the archaeological museum in San Pedro de Atacama with its well known mummy "Miss Chile" and, last but not least, Chuquicamata, the biggest open pit copper mine of the world.
